Singles – Second Round: (1) Vera Zvonareva def. Akgul Amanmuradova 6-3 6-3
Vera Zvonareva needs a final to matter here, but she seems to be off to a good start.
Singles – Second Round: (4) Maria Kirilenko def. Anastasia Rodionova 2-6 6-3 7-6(7-3)
Maria Kirilenko is starting to add points, although it’s not likely that this will be enough to put her in the Top 25.
Singles – Second Round: (7) Sorana Cirstea def. Misaki Doi 6-2 6-2
Sorana Cirstea is now just below the Top Fifty; one more win would put her in.
Singles – Second Round: Tamarine Tanasugarn def. (Q) Chang Kai-Chen 7-6(9-7) 6-3
Tamarine Tanasugarn’s record in Thailand is not as impressive as you’d think, given that she is has been the country’s most significant player for more than a decade, but she seems to be doing pretty well this year. Of course, her opponent turned out to be sick (see the doubles), and even so, it took two fairly close sets.
Doubles – First Round: (1) Mirza/Rodionova def. Bremond/Garcia 6-0 6-2
Doubles – First Round: (2) Daniilidou/Tanasugarn def. Doi/Zhou 6-3 6-2
How weak is this field? Daniilidou/Tanasugarn are a combined #135 — and they are the #2 seeds!
Doubles – First Round: (3) Amanmuradova/Date-Krumm def. Klepac/Pivovarova 3-6 7-6(7-1) 10-4 (Match TB)
Doubles – First Round: (4) H.Chan/Y.Chan def. C.Chan/Jeflea 4-6 6-4 10-5 (Match TB)
Doubles – First Round: Wongteanchai/Wongteanchai def. Cibulkova/Husarova 6-2 6-3
Janette Husarova’s attempted comeback has not been a great success, but this is simply shocking; if Husarova can’t do better than this, her comeback isn’t likely to go anywhere.
Doubles – First Round: Lertcheewakarn/Sema def. Abduraimova/Buyukakcay 6-2 6-1
Doubles – First Round: Cirstea/Keothavong def. Chang/King walkover (Chang: illness)
