Each week, Daily Tennis will look at the biggest movers of the week, looking at how they did what they did.

Biggest Upward Mover — Most Places Moved (Top 100)

Leader: Lukas Lacko — Moved 32 places, from #97 to #65.
Lacko, who was already off to probably his best ever start to a year, made his first-ever final at Zagreb.

Runner-Up: Jeremy Chardy — Moved 18 places, from #82 to #64
Chardy made the Vina del Mar semifinal before losing to eventual champion Juan Monaco

Biggest Percentage Mover — Cut Ranking By Highest Percent (Top 100)

Leader: Lacko, cut ranking 33%.

Runner-Up: Chardy, 22%.

Biggest Loser — Most Places Lost (Top 100)

Loser: Tommy Robredo — Dropped 56 places, from #68 to #124
Robredo, last year’s Santiago champion, this year can’t get healthy.

Biggest Percentage Loser — Worst Percentage Increase in Ranking (Top 100)

Loser: Robredo, ranking increased 82%.

Ranking Notes

For a week when the only event were 250 pointers, the moves were surprisingly large — probably because so few big names were in action to soak up the points. Lacko rose 33% — an amazing move for a guy who didn’t win a title. Chardy rose 22%. Vina del Mar champion Juan Monaco rose 21%, to #23. The guy he beat in the final, Carlos Berlocq, rose 20%, to #44 (yes, we said he would go higher. We somehow ended up with a corrupt formula in our spreadsheet). And Zagreb winner Mikhail Youzhny rose 18%, to #32.

But it was the downward moves that were really rather scary. Robredo, down 82%. Ivan Dodig, last year’s Zagreb champion, down 45%, to #55. And Somdev Devvarman, who like Robredo has been hurt, fell 36%, to #122.

We do get to note that Paul-Henri Mathieu is back on the rankings. Back on the rankings at #733, but at least he’s back.

Our Personal Picks for “Best Mover of the Week”

These are subjective picks!

Lacko, obviously. He had the biggest move, he had his best-ever result, and he blew past his previous ranking.
