Top seeds France will be looking to defend their title in the Tony Trabert Cup (Men’s 40) with three members of last year’s victorious team making the trip to the Seniors World Team and Individual Championships in San Diego, which get under way today. The event features 166 teams from 27 countries. The country will face stiff competition from the second seeded United States, whose side includes 1999 French Open doubles finalist Jeff Tarango.
This is the first time the Seniors (35-60) have headed to America for their World Championships since 2002, when the event was held in Florida. At last year’s event in Christchurch, New Zealand, four events were not completed due to the earthquake which struck the city.
