Singles – Second Round: L Lacko def. (2) A Bogomolov Jr. 6-0 6-7(1-7) 6-1
This continues to be a great year for Lukas Lacko — and a frustrating one for Alex Bogomolov Jr., who loses another Top Thirty chance. Or maybe it’s just that high seeds are jinxed; we’ve lost the top two here.
Singles – Second Round: (3) M Youzhny def. G Zemlja 6-1 6-3
Mikhail Youzhny still hasn’t earned any points; he needs a final. On the other hand, he’s the highest seed left in the draw, so he has a big opportunity.
Singles – Second Round: (4) I Dodig def. G Garcia-Lopez 4-6 6-4 6-4
Guillermo Garcia-Lopez was defending semifinalist points; Ivan Dodig was last year’s champion. One of them was guaranteed to take a hit. It might still be both; Ivan Dodig remains well below the Top Fifty in safe points.
Singles – Second Round: (6) M Baghdatis def. L Kubot 6-4 6-2
Once again Lukasz Kubot will fall short of the Top Fifty. Marcos Baghdatis has reached the stage where any additional points will count toward his ranking.
Singles – Second Round: (8) I Karlovic def. D Sela 6-3 6-2
An amazingly easy win by Ivo Karlovic standards. He finds himself just below the Top Forty. He’ll likely have a trickier time in the next round, when he plays Youzhny; talk about contrast….
Doubles – Quarterfinal: Dodig/Pavic (WC) def. (1) Melzer/Peya 1-6 7-6(9-7) 10-7 (Match TB)
Not the best news for Austria’s Olympic hopes, is it?
Doubles – Quarterfinal: (2) Erlich/A Ram def. Bracciali/Rosol 7-5 7-6(7-4)
Doubles – Quarterfinal: Baghdatis/Youzhny def. Becker/Waske 7-6(7-3) 7-5
