The Federer Effect XII - “The Good the Bad and the Ugly”  |

THE GOOD: After a week of waiting for the mail everyday with Christmas-like  anticipation, I get a text from my UPS store, “you have a package” I’m pretty sure it’s finally arrived and I’m right, my new Nike RF Jacket–all new material and freshly designed. Very subtle, khaki with a black RF logo emblazoned on the right upper sleeve…quite different from the last three seasonal issues. As I begin to try it on, slipping on the left sleeve I sense a wash or warm wave of heightened awareness and everything seems clearer, as it slips over my shoulders the feeling intensifies and my core balance settles in, finally as my right arm makes it’s way through the sleeve my forearm gains mass and my hand is tingling as if my sense of touch is being driven by raw nerves…I’m transitioning, I look over and wink at the twins…twins? I don’t have twins??

THE BAD: The jacket came the day of the Federer vs. Nadal Australian Open Semi Final. For us on the West Coast this means coming alive at 12:30am and once you watch one game your locked into watching the match…they’ll be no “I’ll just watch a little and go back to sleep”. Although it was disappointing not to see Federer go through (7,6-2,6-6,7-4,6) it was a highly entertaining match with out of control highlights. Federer ripping a backhand that practically took the cover off the ball to go up 2,0 in the first set.  Nadal, not only retrieving the impossible but sending it back with interest and angle that seems inhuman….on multiple occasions. Overall, another great match.

THE UGLY: Anytime I stay up until 4:45am and watch Federer lose, it’s going to be ugly. Today I’m a big mess, even though I look sensational in my jacket I’m completely puzzled. I think tonight is going to have to be a  DVR situation. See you at Indian Wells.
