American John Isner is grabbing the sponsorship torch from fellow American Andy Roddick after signing a clothing deal with French house Lacoste. Isner was debuting his new clothes at the Australian Open where he was seeded 16th.
He is co-incidentally now wearing the same marquee as friend-for-life Nicolas Mahut, whom he beat in the longest matching tennis history at Wimbledon in 2010, ending 70-68 for the American.
“I’m proud to represent a brand that has such strong history in tennis and sports values,” said Isner. “I’m absolutely thrilled to be associated with such an amazing company and to become an ambassador for the Lacoste brand and the Rene Lacoste legacy around the world” says Isner.
Roddick made the switch from Reebok seven years ago and has served to lift the crocodile brand’s image in the US market. Lacoste now hosts a fashion show in the US during New York Fashion Week.
“We are very pleased to welcome John Isner to the LACOSTE team,” said Lacoste CEO Christophe Chenut. “He joins Nicolas Mahut among others with whom he holds the record for the longest game in the history of tennis! We are very confident in his next results, especially on fast surfaces.”
Isner joins a company sponsoring more than 100 tennis and golf champions from over 20 different countries.
