Peter Lundgren, the Swede who spent 15 years going round the world as a player and another 15 as notable coach to the likes of Roger Federer, Marat Safin, Marcelo Rios, Stanislas Wawrinka and others, has finally turned his back on the traveling life.

Lundgren, who turns 47 years old later this month and split from Wawrinka late in 2011, has decided to take a coaching position at the impressive Galleria Tennis and Athletic Club in Houston, Texas.

He will be linking up with his Swedish compatriots Niclas Kroon and Ville Jansson at the three years old club that boasts nine pristine indoor courts and a state-of-the-art gymnasium, situated above the city’s world famous shopping mall.

But Lundgren, who has happy memories of Houston after coaching Federer to the first of his Masters Cup titles at the West Side Tennis Club in 2003, doesn’t intend to completely turn his back on the elite playing strength of world tennis.

“I will still offer my services to ATP and WTA players but you will just have to come to Houston,” said Lundgren who has also had stints contracted to Britain’s Lawn Tennis Association and Patrick Mouratoglou’s Tennis Academy just outside of Paris, where he worked with Grigor Dmitrov.

“Together with Niclas Kroon and trainer Jerome Logan we will be able to help players who want a place to train between tournaments or longer periods of time.”

During his playing career, Lundgren’s ranking peaked at a ranking of world no.25 at the end of 1985 and he amassed $1,130,516 in prize money.
