Following Alex Corretja’s appointment as Spanish Davis Cup captain, former world number one Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario has also signed a two-year contract to take on a similar role as captain of the country’s Fed Cup team. Her first tie, on February 4th and 5th, will be a baptism of fire as Spain faces 2011 finalists Russia in Moscow in the first round of the World Group.
Sanchez-Vicario holds a Fed Cup record second to none for her country, playing 58 ties, winning 50 of 72 singles matches and 22 of 28 matches in doubles, as well as winning the cup five times during the 1990s.
