At 18 years old, standing very confidently at 62.8cm. (24.7in., a bit more than 2ft.), Jyoti Amge now holds the world record as the shortest woman in the world. She beat the past record-holder, American Bridgette Jordan, by an inch… actually more like close to 3 inches!
Jyoti was presented a certificate by Guinness World Records for her grand feat, and she seemed pleased as her parents watched in Nagpur.
“It is wonderful to celebrate my 18th birthday with a new world record, it’s like an added birthday present,” she said (courtesy of BBC).
Ever since she was four, Jyoti has attended regular school, and has now finished her high school education. She plans to acquire a university degree as well. And with even bigger goals in mind, this little wonder also dreams of becoming a Bollywood actress and is reported to be featured in two movies next year.
Now, imagine her as a tennis player… how would she fare against say Li Na or Francesca Schiavone? Jyoti is young and must be very aerodynamic due to her light weight and small stature, so she does have that going for her. But, the other two are pro WTA players – among the highest ranks. Jyoti, on the other hand is probably not trained (it would be interesting if she was a trained player), so that would go against her. The size might also be a downfall because she has short reach, although the speed can make up for that, but it’s unlikely that she can run the court so easily. It would not surprise me if she tries to set a record next as the smallest tennis player, so we should all look out for her on the court just in case that happens after her Bollywood stint. Let us know what you think below about this small wonder!
