Racquet Sports Industry magazine announced some of its 2011 Champions of Tennis Awards at the American Sports Builders Association Awards Dinner, held in Palm Springs, CA, at the conclusion of the ASBA’s annual Technical Meeting.
The RSI Champions of Tennis Awards announced in Palm Springs are: Sales Rep of the Year, 10 and Under Facility Developer of the Year, and Builder/Contractor of the Year. The recipients each received a plaque from RSI Editorial Director Peter Francesconi during the ASBA Awards dinner with 500 people in attendance.
RSI Sales Rep of the Year: Lee Sponaugle, Sport Court. Sponaugle, the director of corporate accounts, has increased business greatly for the manufacturer of modular court surfaces by tying into the 10 and Under Tennis initiative, tennis’s most visible campaign. As the “official modular court” for the USTA, Sport Court has been installing its shorter courts around the country.
10 and Tennis Facility Developer of the Year: Hinding Tennis. RSI created this award in 2011 because the 10 and Under Tennis initiative is so important to the growth of tennis. Hinding Tennis of West Haven, CT, and owner Tom Hinding go beyond simply “suggesting” facilities add blended lines or shorter courts, but actively campaign for bringing tennis to youngsters.
RSI Builder/Contractor of the Year: Leslie Coatings. This Indianapolis company has won numerous honors over the years for its projects, and its well-respected principals—Jerry Gray and David Nielsen, both Certified Tennis Court Builders—have been very active in leadership positions within the ASBA.
