Maria Sharapova has begun a beach vacation this week on the Thai island of Phuket, staying at the luxury Amanpuri resort.
The world No. 4 seems to have rewarded herself after a rehab session in Arizona followed by a December practice block in Florida, working with former coach Nick Bollettieri at his Bradenton camp. Nick was so pleased to have his one-time pupil back in the house that he Tweeted her doings during her visit, including answering fan question from the stands after a session.
But Sharapova is now in Asia, soaking up the pre-Christmas sun at the posh resort, built in 1987 and considered one of the best in the world on the Andeman sea.
Sharapova won’t be missing any of the little luxuries to which she has became accustomed, with the three-time major champion who collected 2011 Masters titles in Rome and Cincinnati. She will be able to make full use of the spa, a fleet of luxury ocean boats plus gourmet dining and wellness facilities.
The US-based Russian shared her holiday with fans, with pictures of her around the palm-fringed grounds in abundance her Facebook page.
Sharapova begins her 2012 WTA season in Brisbane, where she will play for the first time in a field which also includes US Open winner Samantha Stosur of Australia, former French Open champion Francesca Schiavone, German Andrea Petkovic and Serena Williams.
