Three-time Grand Slam champion and global superstar confirms her participation
Montreal, Dec. 9, 2011 – World No. 4 Maria Sharapova of Russia has confirmed her participation in the Rogers Cup presented by National Bank, which will be held from August 4-13, 2012 at Uniprix Stadium in Montreal.
“Christmas has come early for our team and especially for tennis fans in Montreal,” said Rogers Cup tournament director Eugène Lapierre. “Anytime we can announce that a player of Maria’s (Sharapova) calibre and stature within the sport, it is a good day.”
Sharapova is a three-time Grand Slam champion and one of the biggest female athletes in the world. A former World No. 1, the 24-year-old was a finalist at the Rogers Cup in 2009 and will be making her first appearance in Montreal since 2008.
“I am happy that I was able to include the Rogers Cup on my schedule for next year,” said Sharapova. Montreal is a dynamic, diverse city and I look forward to going back.”
In 2011, Sharapova enjoyed her best season in several years. She won two titles to bring her career total to 24, reached the final at Wimbledon and was a semifinalist at Roland-Garros.
Sharapova joins fellow Top 10 players Caroline Wozniacki, Victoria Azarenka, Vera Zvonareva and Marion Bartoli on the Rogers Cup entry list for next August.
In 2012, for the first time in tournament history, main draw play at the Rogers Cup will begin on Tuesday August 7 with the singles final scheduled for Monday August 13 at 7 p.m. in the evening.

La tripe championne de tournois du Grand Chelem et vedette mondiale confirme sa participation
Montréal, le 9 décembre 2011 – La Russe Maria Sharapova, quatrième meilleure raquette mondiale, a confirmé qu’elle participera à la Coupe Rogers présentée par Banque Nationale, du 4 au 13 août 2012, au Stade Uniprix, à Montréal.
« Noël arrive tôt pour notre équipe et surtout pour les amateurs de tennis de Montréal », commentait Eugène Lapierre, directeur de la Coupe Rogers. « Lorsque nous pouvons annoncer la présence d’une joueuse de la trempe de Maria (Sharapova), nous savons que nous allons avoir une très bonne journée. »
Sharapova est détentrice de trois titres de tournois du Grand Chelem et l’une des plus grandes vedettes du sport féminin. L’ex-numéro un mondiale, qui est âgée de 24 ans, était finaliste lors de la Coupe Rogers de 2009 et sera à Montréal pour la première fois depuis 2008.
« Je suis très heureuse de pouvoir inscrire la Coupe Rogers à mon calendrier de tournois », déclarait Sharapova. « Montréal est une ville vibrante et colorée et j’ai vraiment hâte d’y retourner. »
En 2011, Sharapova a connu une de ses meilleures saisons des dernières années. Elle a conquis deux trophées, portant ainsi le total de sa collection à 24, a atteint la finale de Wimbledon ainsi que la demi-finale de Roland- Garros.
Sharapova se joint ainsi aux autres joueuses du Top 10, soit Caroline Wozniacki, Victoria Azarenka, Vera Zvonareva et Marion Bartoli, sur la liste des participantes de l’édition 2012 de la Coupe Rogers présentée par Banque Nationale.
Pour la première fois de l’histoire du tournoi, les matchs du tableau principal de l’édition 2012 de la Coupe Rogers commenceront le mardi 7 août et la finale sera disputée à 19 h, le lundi 13 août.
