Rafael Nadal will take up another duty with sponsor Bacardi drinks when he fronts a competition which allows his millions of fans worldwide to virtually “compete” on serve with the 10-time major winner using a RoboServ 3000 computer program.
The program uses artificial intelligence technology to calculate Nadal’s position and optimize the speed, spin and distance of contestants’ serves. The campaign is part of Bacardi and Nadal’s “Champions Drink Responsibly” social responsibility initiative.
Anyone over 21 who fancies his or her chances on court with “Robo-Rafa” can enter the contest, going to the “Champions Drink Responsibly” Facebook. The initiative will last through March.
Those who can manage to ace the virtual Spaniard online get entered into a drawing with the prize a visit to the champion’s hometown of Mallorca for a meeting with Rafa in person. Also present: the RoboServ 3000 machine itself.
“I hope my fans enjoy this unique chance to play against me,” Nadal said in a statement. “Drinking responsibly is a serious message and I believe we will reach and influence more people with this important message by expressing it in a more lighthearted and interactive way.”
