It would have been even more if he had not succumbed to injury and fatigue in the final few weeks of the season, but world number one Novak Djokovic will still have a big smile on his face after breaking the record for most earnings in a season on the ATP World Tour.
The Serbian pulled in an amazing $12,619,803, easily beating the previous record of $10.1 million earned by Rafael Nadal in 2010, and is now fourth on the list of career prize money leaders with $32.8 million in earnings. Roger Federer, who earned $6,369,576 in 2011, heads the list with $67.4 million, with Rafael Nadal second with $45 million ($7,668,214 in 2011) and Pete Sampras third with prize money of $43.2 million.
