First Rafael Nadal announced he would be turning his back on Spain’s Davis Cup team next year and now world no.5 David Ferrer has revealed he is considering similar action.
Ferrer, whose days won heroics in beating Juan Martin Del Potro followed on a similar spirited show against the United States in Austin, Texas, announced he did not think the winning team of himself, Nadal, Feliciano Lopez and Fernando Verdasco would ever reassemble.
Captain Albert Costa is considering his future and Ferrer said: “This is the end of the party.
“I have been here for many years, and we all personally look at our own calendar. I’m older. I probably don’t have a good physical condition, so it will be really difficult that the four of us coincide.”
Ferrer pointed to the likes of Nicolas Almagro and Marcel Granollers to take the Spanish team forward. “There are lots of good players coming, lots of people who can replace us, people who are better than us, and they can get better. For us to be in a Davis Cup is going to be very difficult.”
