Four-time Paralympian Randy Snow has been posthumously awarded the Paralympic Order, an award which recognises an individual who has made an important contribution to the Paralympic Movement and has illustrated the Paralympic ideals either in the sporting world or via their outstanding services to the cause of the movement.
The 1992 Paralympic Games men’s singles and doubles gold medallist is one of four individuals to be recognised by the International Paralympic Committee. The recipients will be presented with the honour at the Paralympic Awards Gala in the Intercontinental Hotel ballroom in Beijing, China on 10 December.
As well as winning the US Open wheelchair tennis event 10 times, Snow also contributed to wheelchair tennis as both a coach and player ambassador on numerous projects for the ITF in Bolivia, Brazil, El Salvador and Thailand. He passed away on 19 November 2009 during a visit to El Salvador where he was running Wheelchair Tennis clinics and workshops for the ITF.
