The eight singles finalists who qualified to compete at the 2011 Barclays ATP World Tour Finalists have raised $57,261 through a unique worldwide player locker charity auction organized by the ATP. The lockers, personally stocked with signed memorabilia by each of the top eight singles players were on display in the Fan Zone at The O2 across the eight days of the tournament.
Save the Children, the charity partner for the tournament, will receive 50% of the proceeds from the auction, with the other 50% going to each player’s chosen charity. Roger Federer’s locker fetched the most amount of money, with the top bid coming in at $17,800. Rafael Nadal’s locker raised $14,800.
The charity auction was run online through www.BarclaysATPWorldTourFinals.com/Charity over the past 10 days, enabling fans all over the world to bid on their favorite player’s locker. Five of the winning bids came from Japan, while t two came from Great Britain and one from Switzerland. A total of 499 bids were placed on the eight different lockers.
The amount that each player generated, with their charity of choice and the origin of the winning bid were as follows:
