Britain’s Laura Robson is still just 17, but the promise she has shown of becoming a top player is increasingly being compromised by injury.

In 2008 she won Junior Wimbledon, and in the following two years reached the final of the Australian Open juniors. But she suffered a hip injury during the 2011 Hopman Cup, and then a pulled stomach muscle shortly after she returned to competition in March.

Now her preparation for Australia has been put on hold and she has been forced to cancel her plans for pre-season training in Las Vegas with Darren Cahill and Gil Reyes as part of the adidas development program.

“Sadly, I’m unable to go to Vegas to train with adidastennis due to early stages of a stress fracture in my left shin,” she reported on Twitter. “Back in action in a few weeks so prep for Aus will start then!”

Robson is presently the British number four, ranked 131 behind Elena Baltacha (50), Anne Keothavong (73) and Heather Watson (92).
