Rafael Nadal will be lifting his game in hopes of claiming a late semi-final place in London at the World Tour Finals with a must-win group match against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Nadal was keeping his spirits up after taking his worst loss to Roger Federer over the course of their 26 career meetings, going down 6-3, 6-0 in an hour.
“I accept that he played at a fantastic level, a very, very top level. It was something very special only one player like Roger can manage. I accept that and keep fighting,” said the Spaniard who still has a Davis Cup final to play next week at home against Argentina.
“This is not the moment to say good bye or to go down,” said ten-time Grand Slam winner Nadal. I’m still in the tournament, I’m still having the chance to be in the semi-finals by winning the next match.”
Nadal and Federer were playing for the first time since the Spaniard won their 2011 Roland Garros finals meeting. “I didn’t play really bad, but he didn’t have one mistake during all the match or two mistakes during all the match. I tried my best, but it seems that wasn’t enough tonight,” said Nadal.
