Tennis Europe has confirmed the host nations for the next three European Beach Tennis Championships. The tournament, one of the highlights on the ITF Beach Tennis Tour, will move to San Marino in 2012, before Great Britain hosts the event in 2013-14.
The two nations will be looking to build on the success of previous years which have seen Italy, Turkey and Bulgaria host the first four championships. The venue for the 2012 European Beach Tennis Championships is the IBS Beach Planet resort in San Marino, with the British venues still to be confirmed. It will be the first time Great Britain has hosted a major international beach tennis event.
ITF President Francesco Ricci Bitti said: “Tennis Europe’s decision to bring their premier event to two new countries is a positive step in the development of the sport in Europe. The European Beach Tennis Championships have always been a major highlight for players, and we are sure they will appreciate the opportunity to showcase their talents in San Marino and Great Britain.”
The European Beach Tennis Championships, organized by Tennis Europe, have formed part of the ITF Beach Tennis Tour since 2008 and seen a steady growth in size and popularity. At the 2011 event in Bulgaria, a total of 120 players from 19 nations competed in the men’s and women’s competitions.
