This season isn’t over yet for Novak Djokovic, but he already has his thoughts on 2012. He knows that his wins at three majors as well as his pile of Masters Series titles and lengthy winning streak that saw him go undefeated until the semi-finals at Roland Garros has put him firmly in the history books. But he also knows that repeating such achievements next year will be a monumental challenge.
“I am going to do my best to try to get as close to these results as possible,” he said. “I know it’s going to be a really big task but it’s a new year and I think after the year I had I can only take the best out of it, be positive and be proud of what I have achieved, and that can only give me a lot of confidence for what is coming up. With the new position that I have, obviously I have more expectations but I am ready for it.”
Andy Murray likened his friend’s situation to that of the Barcelona soccer team which is considered to be one of the best sides in the history of the game, but they have found it difficult to dominate for more than a season.
“It’s like Barcelona in football,” said Murray. “It’s the best team but to win back-to-back Champions Leagues, even though you’re the best team, it’s so tough, the margins are so small. A lot of things have to go your way.”
