Novak Djokovic hopes to have shaken the shoulder injury which has dulled his sparkling 2011 season, with the world No. 1 arriving in London for the World Tour Finals and announcing his renewed fitness.
It’s the same story, week two, for the Serb who has won ten titles this season but has gone off the boil over the last two months as physical problems from so much winning play settle in.
Djokovic returned a fortnight ago from six weeks off with a back strain he called the worst of his career, then won three matches in Basel before falling with his shoulder worry in the Swiss semi-finals.
Emergency treatment by specialists in Monte Carlo gave him a late arrival last week in Paris, where he managed to take to the court – collecting his $1.6 million ATP year-end bonus – for two matches before defaulting before the quarters against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
After saying he would be getting massive treatment, the smiling Serb appeared this week on Italian television looking none the worse for wear and proclaimed his London arrival for the year-end event with a Facebook posting while leaving his fitness to be discussed later.
“Hey guys! Arrived to London yesterday afternoon. I’m very excited to be back and so far things are looking good. Already practiced 2 times ;).”
His first order of business was apparently social after promising to take longtime girlfriend Jelena to the cinema for a vampire flick.
The top seed at the season wrap-up starts play on Monday night facing Tomas Berdych,
