The Australian Open today announced the signing of Medibank as a new sponsor.

“We are proud to have a sponsor on board who is so committed to raising awareness of the values of healthy living, an active lifestyle and wellbeing – ideals also important to the Australian Open,” Tennis Australia CEO Steve Wood said at the announcement today.

“We are looking forward to working with Medibank to make sure 2012 is the most exciting tournament yet.”

Over the next three years Medibank aims to use their association with the Australian Open to encourage and support Australians to lead healthy and active lifestyles.

“At Medibank our purpose is for better health – better health for our members and better health for all Australians. As part of this we want to encourage participation in physical activity, particularly tennis, and we have a desire to reach more people with our healthy lifestyle messages,” Medibank Managing Director George Savvides said.

“This ideal is shared by the Australian Open which is why Medibank is associated with this fantastic event.”

Medibank will host Better Health Day on Tuesday 24 January, where visitors to the Australian Open can find out more about the benefits of healthcare along with giveaways and a competition.
