World no.1 Novak Djokovic has been presented as the prime example of commitment and fighting spirit to Serbia’s misfiring national soccer team.
Tomislav Karadzic, the president of the Serbian Football Association is smarting from the team’s failure to qualify for next year’s European Championships 2012 and in the last couple of days the team has lost two friendly matches against Mexico and Honduras.
“Djokovic is a shining example how one should represent one’s motherland,” insisted Karadzic.
Serbia also under performed in last year’s World Cup in South Africa and Karadzic recently accepted the resignation of coach Vladimir Petrovic, replacing him on a temporary basis with Radovan Curcic.
Karadzic added: “I am not saying our players lacked motivation or desire to qualify for next year’s European Championship finals, but I would still love to see Djokovic’s tenacity and hunger for victory in their eyes.”
