Rafael Nadal continues the countdown to his frenetic 2011 season close, with the world No. 2 getting the physical all-clear from various niggling injuries as he gets ready for his re-emergence onto the courts at the ATP World Tour Finals starting a week from Sunday.
The battered Spaniard has not played since going down in a third-round humiliation at the Shanghai Masters a month ago to German Florian Mayer. Nadal is skipping the Paris Masters to prepare for the London year-ender and the Davis Cup final against Argentina in Seville December 2-4.
Spanish television reported that the 25-year-old had his various physical niggles examined his (and the Spanish federation’s) longtime doctor Angel Ruiz Cotorro and pronounced fit to compete. Medical authorities said that Nadal’s examinations “have been positive and he has completed his preparation to compete at peak performance.”
Nadal was burned out and hurting when he played the October Asian swing, which was dominated by Andy Murray, winning of a bone-crushing Tokyo final over the Spaniard.
