Juan Martin del Potro won 6-2 7-5 in the quarterfinal against American Sam Querrey at the Valencia Open 500 on Friday. Querrey has had some great wins this week in the previous round he downed the number two seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in straight sets.

Del Potro is getting back on track after having had time off to have surgery on his wrist. Last week the Argentine lost in the Vienna final to Tsonga. The World No. 14 has won Estoril and Delray Beach so far in 2011. The former world number four will face Marcel Granollers of Spain in the semi-finals. The Spaniard had a great win over the number three seed Gael Monfils 7-6 (12) 3-6 6-4. After yesterday’s defeat Monfils is left with little chance to qualify for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London.

Top seed David Ferrer advanced into the semi-final with a win over Russian Nikolay Davydenko 6-3 6-4. The former two-time Valencia Champion has already qualified for London. He will now meet Juan Monaco who ousted former world number one Juan Carlos Ferrero 6-3 6-3. The World No. 5 has not even been close to losing a set this week in Valencia.

The dynamic duo of Bob and Mike Bryan are sailing through the draw this week. Yesterday they had a win over Frantisek Cermak and Filip Polasek 6-3 6-4. The twins have finished the World No. 1 team for the seventh time in nine years. 2004 and 2008 were the only two years they missed out finishing at the top. “We’re obviously very pumped to finish at No.1, especially with the quality of teams on the doubles tour. It’s always our ultimate goal when we start the year and we’ll definitely look back on 2011 with positive feelings,” Bob Bryan said.

In 2011 the Bryan Brothers have won the Australian Open and Wimbledon and five other ATP Tour titles. “Its always a special feeling finishing the year as the top team I think it’s more satisfying than winning a Slam because it represents the season as a whole,” Mike Bryan said.

Next up for Bob and Mike at the Valencia Open 500’s semi-final are the Brazilian team of Marcelo Melo and Bruno Soares.
