Ana Ivanovic is working to rediscover her championship game of three years ago, when the photogenic Serb ruled the women’s tennis world with a French Open title and world No. 1 status. But the No. 26 remains optimistic and sees new life in her game as she works with newly hired British coach Nigel Sears.
“(Poor performance) have recently had to do with my back (injury),” the Basel-based player told Swiss media. “But sometimes with the head, with the self-confidence. Often, everything is interconnected somehow. Success is sometimes easy, but it’s sometimes a science.” Ivanovic said that looking at previous matches on tape brings back memories but also shows her improving form on certain shots. “I often think that I’m now having a good day. When I watch old videos of me, I realize that my forehand is stronger now. I have more spin on it. “Before, I hit the ball relatively flat, wondering if it would go in or out. A lot has to do with self confidence and match rhythm. For awhile, I was packing my suitcase almost form the moment that I arrived. “But when you are winning, you can’t help but want to win more. If you lose the feeling it is slow to build back. But I think I’m on the way.” Ivanovic is playing this week in the final event of the WTA season, the Tournament of Champions in Bali. “DAILY TENNIS NEWS WIRE” |
