Have you guys missed me? Has the suspense been growing since I told you in my last update that I had a big announcement coming?? Alright alright, I’ll let you in on a little secret…
I’m in Chicago for the next Champions Series Tour Event, the PowerShares QQQ Challenge!
That’s right, I sorta hopped on the bandwagon and am following the events here in Chicago and in St. Louis! It’s an awesome experience that’s sure to open my eyes to the world off the court. I mean it already has, I’ve witnessed how events are set up and put together, the kind of work that it takes to make sure every patron is taken care of and given a great show! The weather is kind of a factor here in Chicago, it’s my first time in this great city. It’s been raining and gusting all day which makes travel more of a challenge. Also, I’ve been asking every taxicab driver I’ve had to tell me what they know about the city. During the early periods of Chicago, it was known for its meat and rail industries, building the “bridge” between east and west coasts! There’s definitely alot of cultural diversity in downtown as well. I know that there are slight differences between the different districts of Chicago, West Side and so forth, so I’ll try learn a little bit more about that later! Traveling is one of my passions so the 4hour flight from LAX was a pleasure for me. The Chicago skyline is also a magnificent view, I managed to snap a few pictures on my phone to send out to a few friends!
Don’t worry, I’m not quitting tennis to join a different business or industry just yet! Yesterday I was fully engaged in practice in Irvine, CA at the Advantage Tennis Academy. Head Coach and President, Jimmy Johnson, was able to work with me privately for a little while before I jumped into group control drills with the youngsters attending the full-time program there. I got a really good workout because the coaches there incorporate a lot of fitness drills into the practices. I was actually asking for a breather while the youngsters kept pushing on through the fitness stuff. I set the example/standard in sprints, but when it came to power-jumps off of benches, sorta like mountain climbers on the floor but instead we just push off a bench, my quads just couldn’t keep pumping! It was really tough but at least I know that’s the area I have to work on. My next tournament is in November so I figure I can spare myself a little time to branch out of being a tennis player for a little while and try something else! I’ll try update you with more information once it’s made available to me tomorrow concerning the PowerShares QQQ Challenge! Until then I’m enjoying the Windy City and it’s “Gotham City” feel!
Should’ve heeded my former coach Brad Pearce’s constant warning to always bring a jacket with a hood,
