WOZNIAK SET TO RETURN
Montreal, October 3, 2011 – Aleksandra Wozniak (Blainville, QC) has received the green light from her
opthalmologist to return to competition. She suffered hemorrhaging in the back of her eye near the retina after she
was hit by a ball during her semifinal match at the Albuquerque Challenger. Wozniak leaves Tuesday for Europe
where she will compete in the qualifying of two WTA events in Linz and Luxembourg.
Raonic back in action
Milos Raonic (Thornhill, ON) is playing his first ATP tournament since Wimbledon in July, this week at the
Rakuten Japan Open Tennis Championships, an ATP 500 event in Tokyo, Japan. He will face Japanese wildcard
and world no. 175 Yuichi Sugita in his opening match on Tuesday. With a win, Raonic could meet Rafael Nadal in
the second round. The two players met in Tokyo last year and it was Nadal who came away with a 6-4, 6-4 win.
Canada finishes second in Junior Fed Cup
The Junior Davis Cup and Fed Cup finals were played on Sunday. The competition, which brought together the
Top 16 U16 junior teams in the world, was contested in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. The Canadian Junior Fed Cup
squad came within one tie of taking home top honours, but came up short in the final against Australia to finish
second. The team of Francoise Abanda (Montréal, QC), Erin Routliffe (Caledon, ON), Carol Zhao (Richmond Hill,
ON) and captain Ralph Platz earned victories over the Chinese Taipei, Romania, Brazil and Italy before losing in
the final. Meanwhile, the Canadian Junior Davis Cup team of Hugo Di Feo (Montreal, QC), Filip Obucina
(Etobicoke, ON), Brayden Schnur (Pickering, ON) and captain Martin Laurendeau finished seventh.

Montréal, le 3 octobre 2011 – Aleksandra Wozniak (Blainville, QC) a obtenu le feu vert de son ophtalmologiste
pour reprendre la compétition. Rappelons que la Blainvilloise souffrait d’une hémorragie près de la rétine, après
qu’elle ait reçu une balle sur l’œil lors de la demi-finale du Challenger d’Albuquerque. Elle partira donc dès
demain pour l’Europe afin de prendre part aux tournois du WTA de Linz et du Luxembourg.
Raonic en action
Milos Raonic (Thornhill, ON) dispute cette semaine son premier tournoi comptant pour le classement de l’ATP
World Tour depuis son retrait à Wimbledon, en juillet dernier. En effet, après avoir joué un match en Coupe Davis,
il participe à l’Open de Tokyo. Pour ce premier match, il croisera le fer avec le Japonais et 175e joueur mondial
Yuichi Sugita, récipiendaire d’un laissez-passer. Advenant une victoire, l’Ontarien pourrait affronter Rafael Nadal
au deuxième tour. Les deux joueurs s’étaient rencontrés à pareille date l’an dernier au même tournoi et Nadal
avait eu le dessus en deux manches de 6-4 et 6-4.
Le Canada termine deuxième en Fed Cup junior
C’est dimanche qu’avait lieu la finale de la Fed Cup et Coupe Davis juniors. La compétition, qui se tenait à San
Luis Potosi, au Mexique, regroupait les 16 meilleurs pays du monde. Le Canada a fait belle figure alors que
l’équipe féminine est passée près de remporter les grands honneurs, mais a finalement dû se contenter du
deuxième rang. L’équipe pilotée par Ralph Platz était composée de Françoise Abanda (Montréal, QC), Erin
Routliffe (Caledon, ON) et Carol Zhao (Richmond Hill, ON). Les Canadiennes ont finalement baissé pavillon
devant l’Australie après avoir vaincu la Taiwan, la Roumanie, le Brésil et l’Italie. Du côté de la Coupe Davis junior,
les garçons n’ont pas à rougir de leur performance puisqu’ils se sont classés au 7e rang. Le quatuor composé
d’Hugo Di Feo (Montréal, QC), Filip Obucina (Etobicoke, ON) et Brayden Schnur (Pickering, ON) recevait les
bons conseils de leur capitaine Martin Laurendeau.
