LEXUS OF LAS VEGAS OPEN - Day 6  |

LAS VEGAS, Nev., (Oct. 2, 2011) – Alexa Glatch was just glad she made it out to the doubles final Sunday at the third annual Lexus of Las Vegas Open.

After losing a tightly contested and great played singles final against top-seeded Romina Oprandi in three sets in two hours and 30 minutes, 6-7 (2), 6-3, 7-6 (4), Glatch rested and then returned to win the doubles final at the USTA Pro Circuit $50,000 event played at the Red Rock Country Club in Summerlin.

Glatch found herself on the floor of the women’s lockeroom at Red Rock given one hour to rest before her doubles final following singles.

“I was feeling sick and faint and cramping a little bit so I was so happy I was able to go out and still play the doubles,” Glatch said minutes after teaming with Mashona Washington to beat Melanie Oudin and Varvara Lepchenko, 6-4, 6-2, to win the doubles final.

In her singles, the top-seeded Oprandi had chances to win the match in the game of the tournament at 4-4 in the final set. “At 4-all I had two chances to break her but I wasn’t able to do it,” Oprandi said. “(Alexa) just served so big today and I had very few chances to do something with the service games.”

Glatch’s full-time traveling coach Ric Mortera, a volunteer assistant for the women’s team at the University of Illinois, was impressed with Glatch’s perseverance on Sunday and agreed with her that Oprandi played the final points bigger.

“She really stepped up her game in the tiebreaker and I wasn’t as aggressive as I needed to be,” Glatch said. “She played really well. I served OK. There were not many breaks in the match. They were few and far between.”

She added: “It’s been a great week and a great tournament for me. I really didn’t expect to make the finals in singles and to make the finals and win the doubles is just great.”
