Top seeded US Open Champions Jurgen Melzer of Austria and Philipp Petzschner of Germany won their first round doubles at the Malaysian Open, Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday against Mikhail Elgin of Russia and Mikhail Kukushkin of Kazakhstan 7-6 (5) 6-2.
The number one seeds will face British duo Colin Fleming and Ross Hutchins in the second round. The English team overcame American Alex Bogomolov Jr and Lukas Rosol of Czech Republic 6-2 6-3.
The number three seeds Frantisek Cermak of Czech Republic and Filip Polasek of Slovakia triumphed over Malaysian wildcards Ahmed Deedat Abdul Razak and Ariez Elyaas Deen Heshaam 6-2 6-2 to reach the quarterfinals. The number three seeds will face the German/Swedish team of Marin Emmrich and Andreas Siljestrom who needed three sets to defeat Adil Shamasdin of Canada and Igor Zelenay of Slovakia.
In the bottom half of the doubles draw the number two seeds American Eric Butorac and Jean-Julien Rojer of the Netherlands Antilles had a two set win over wildcard team American Ryan Harrison and Yew-Ming Si of Malaysia. They will now take on Lukas Dhlouy of Czech Republic and Marcelo Melo of Brazil. The Czech/Brazil team booked their quarterfinals spot by defeating Russian duo Nikolay Davydenko and Teymurz Gabashvili 6-4 7-6 (5).
