Juan Ignacio Chela top seed in BRD Nastase Tiriac Trophy in Bucharest
The ATP World Tour 250 event in Bucharest, Romania is getting underway today. Last year’s singles and doubles winner Juan Ignacio Chela is back to defend his titles this year. Chela partnered Lukasz Kubot to win the doubles crown.
Juan Ignacio Chela defeated Spain’s Pablo Andujar in the singles final last year. Andujar is also back in Bucharest this year and is seeded number four. The top four seeds all have byes in the first round. Chela will be facing a qualifier in the second round. Seeded number two is German Florian Mayer. The German will encounter tough competition in his first round playing the winner of Argentinian Carlos Berlocq or Austrian Andreas Haider-Maurer.
The number three seed Marcel Granollers of Spain is looking to win his second career title this week. The 25-year-old won the Gstaad tournament in July beating Fernando Verdasco in the final. Granollers will play the winner of Rui Machado of Portugal and Filippo Volandri of Italy.
Other seeded players in the draw are, Andreas Seppi of Italy (7), Albet Montanes of Spain (8), Tommy Robredo of Spain (5) and Potito Starace of Italy (6).
The following three Romanian players have been awarded wildcards into the main draw Marius Copil, Victor Crivoi and Adrian Ungur. The only Romanian to be directly accepted into the singles main draw is Victor Hanescu who is facing Albert Ramos of Spain in the first round.
Top seeds in the doubles event are the World No. 6 Horia Tecau of Romania and Robert Lindstedt of Sweden. The Wimbledon finalists will play Romanian wildcard team of Victor-Mugurel Anagnastopol and Florin Mergea.
