Final Facts
– Pervak, 20, wins her first WTA singles title from her second final. She was runner-up to Vera Zvonareva at Baku in July.
– No.1 seed at a WTA tournament for the first time, Russia’s Pervak is the 10th top seed to lift a singles trophy in 2011, and the third first-time title winner of the season after Alberta Brianti (Fès) and Polona Hercog (Bastad).
– Pervak did not drop a set in her five matches at Tashkent this week.
– Five Russians have now won singles titles this year. The list also includes Zvonareva (Doha, Baku), Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (Monterrey), Maria Sharapova (Rome, Cincinnati) and Nadia Petrova (College Park).
– Pervak began the year ranked No.97; she wins this title on a ranking of No.52 and is projected to improve on her career high of No.51, achieved in July.
– Birnerova, who turned 27 during the week, was contesting her first WTA singles final, having never previously been past three quarterfinals reached (most recently at Stockholm in 2006).
– Birnerova advanced to the final when defending champion and No.6 seed Alla Kudryavtseva retired in the second set of their semi (left hamstring strain).
– Eleni Daniilidou and Vitalia Diatchenko win their first WTA doubles title as a team. Daniilidou now has three doubles titles to her name, while the win marks Diatchenko’s first WTA title of any kind; she had been a finalist four times, including here in 2009 (w/Dzehalevich).
– 19-year-old Ukrainian twins Lyudmyla and Nadiya Kichenok were contesting their first WTA final.
