Stéphanie Dubois will miss the remainder of the 2011 season because of a stress fracture in her foot. ‘
’Of course, it’s disappointing as I was on a good streak with my ranking now back in the Top 100 in the world, ‘’ said Stéphanie Dubois. « At this time, I want to take the time to cure my foot and fully recover. I will then focus to come back even stronger for the 2012 season. »
Dubois began experiencing pain at the U.S. Open during the qualifying rounds. With her foot becoming more and more painful as time passed, she had an MRI in Quebec City on Tuesday following her first round loss to Rebecca Marino at the Bell Challenge which revealed a stress fracture. Dubois pulled out of doubles and will miss six weeks of competition, putting a premature end to a successful 2011 campaign.
Dubois’ season was highlighted by a return to the Top 100 on the WTA rankings for the first time in nearly three years. She won two ITF Challenger titles in Charlottesville and Granby to bring her career total to nine. She also qualified for the main draw at Wimbledon and reached the second round where she lost a tough three set match to world no. 11 Andrea Petkovic of Germany. This summer, Dubois advanced to the second round of the Rogers Cup presented by National Bank in Toronto for the third time in her career.

« C’est bien sûr très décevant car j’étais sur une belle lancée avec mon classement de retour dans le top 100 mondial, » a déclaré Stéphanie Dubois. « À ce moment, je dois prendre le temps nécessaire pour guérir mon pied a 100%. Je vais ensuite me concentrer pour revenir encore plus forte pour la prochaine saison ».
Dubois a commencé à ressentir de la douleur lors des qualifications des Internationaux des États-Unis. Alors que la douleur se faisait de plus en plus vive, elle a subi un test de résonnance magnétique à Québec mardi suite à sa défaite au premier tour devant Rebecca Marino au Challenge Bell, révélant une fracture de stress.
Dubois s’est donc retirée du double et manquera six semaines de compétition, mettant du même coup un terme à une campagne 2011 très fructueuse. La saison de Dubois a été ponctuée de nombreux faits saillants incluant un retour parmi le Top 100 au
classement WTA pour la première fois en trois ans. Elle a remporté deux titres de tournois Challenger ITF (Charlottesville et Granby) pour porter son total en carrière à neuf. Elle s’est aussi qualifiée pour le tableau principal à Wimbledon et a atteint le deuxième tour où elle a perdu un long match de trois sets contre l’Allemande Andrea Petkovic, 11e joueuse mondiale. Cet été, Dubois a franchi le deuxième tour lors de la Coupe Rogers presentée par Banque Nationale à Toronto pour la troisième fois de sa carrière.
