Brit Andy Murray is the third player to qualify for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London. Murray qualified when he won his second round match against Dutchman Robin Haase in the first week of US Open.
Murray together with Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal are the only players who have made it into the event at the O2 Arena in London so far. The World No. 4 has now qualified for the event for the fourth straight year.
The Barclays ATP World Tour Finals are played with the top eight singles players and the top eight doubles teams. They will play a minimum of three round robin matches and the two top players/teams in each group will move into the semi-finals.
The British number one player is yet to win a Grand Slam. This year Murray reached the final of Australian Open where he lost to Novak Djokovic, he reached the semi-finals of Roland Garros, Wimbledon and the US Open. He also won the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 in Cincinnati when Novak Djokovic had to pull out in the final.
After his surprise loss in the first round in Montreal, his first tournament after reaching the Wimbledon semi-finals Murray thought the long break he had might have affected his game. But he came back and won Cincinnati and he reached the semi-final of the US Open where he lost to Rafael Nadal. Murray said after the match, “I’m not having a go at the guys, I’m having a go at myself because I get frustrated. It’s something I have done since I was young although it is something I need to improve on. That’s not the reason I lost but it is something that could give me an extra one or two per cent.”
Andy Murray knows he needs to get mentally tougher to win a Grand Slam and lets hope he can find the winning formula as he very much deserves to be the next Grand Slam winner.
