Novak Djokovic has won the US Open title today after an amazing display on Arthur Ashe Stadium. The World No. 1 defeated the World No. 2 Rafael Nadal 6-2 6-4 6-7 (3) 6-1.

It was one of the best matches ever seen with games lasting up to ten minutes a piece. The rallies went on and on and both players were hitting some amazing winners from the baseline. This extraordinary match will go down in history as one of the best played matches.

Today’s win is Djokovic’s 10th Grand Slam title. It is the sixth time he has beaten Nadal this year. And talking about this year it has been an amazing one for the World Number One only losing two matches in nine months. His win/loss record now stands at 64-2.

The Serbian superstar won the Australian Open and Wimbledon. He lost in the semis of the French Open to Roger Federer, the only player to really beat Djokovic this year. The only other time the Serb has “lost” was when he had to retire against Andy Murray in the final of Cincinnati a couple of weeks ago. Novak Djokovic is the sixth man to win three Grand Slams in one season.

The defending Champion Rafael Nadal was looking to win his 11th Grand Slam title today. The left-hander fought for every point and refused to give up even when he went 1-5 down in the fourth set.

Djokovic was the better player for the first two sets. Nadal came back in the third sets and forced a tiebreaker. The Serb called for the trainer after suffering with some back problems after the third set.

The back problems could not really be noticed in the fourth set when Djokovic played out of control tennis and demolished Nadal 6-1. In the last game of the match Novak hit some unbelievable winners from the back of the court. After winning the match point he went down on his knees.

Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic are both going straight off to get ready for this weekend’s Davis Cup ties.
