Sports Alderman Eric van der Burg of the municipality of Amsterdam launches Tennis Academy Amsterdam on Saturday, July 16 at 12 noon during the Open Day at Tennispark Buitenveldert (Van der Boechorststraat 38, Amsterdam). Tennis Academy Amsterdam is an initiative of top tennis players and coaches John van Lottum, Sven Groeneveld, Roland Laurense and Arjan Pondman. With Tennis Academy Amsterdam, these top trainers offer the Dutch and international tennis world, a world-class training facility at two locations in Amsterdam. For tennis players interested in Tennis Academy in Amsterdam, the Open Day continues at Tennis Centre Amsterdam Kadoelen (IJdoornlaan 1001) after the lunch.
Tennis Academy Amsterdam
Six years ago, tennis coach Roland Laurense started a competitive tennis academy at Amstelborgh-Borchland. At the same time Cor Kwast (co-owner of Tennis Center Amsterdam) and top coach Sven Groeneveld had a similar idea to set up an international tennis school. Now in 2011, all parties decided to go together. “Tennis Academy Amsterdam is a dream of international proportions,” says Roland Laurense with pride. Tennis Academy Amsterdam offers training at the highest level for tennis talent starting with the age of six years’ at two locations: Tennispark Buitenveldert (Van der Boechorststraat 38) and Tennis Center Amsterdam Kadoelen (IJdoornlaan 1001). Here, young talents from The Netherlands and the rest of the world find a unique and inspiring environment to develop and to pull himself up to the international top that will regularly train at the Academy. “The Academy provides top sports in Amsterdam, international appeal and potential,” says co-founder and former tennis player John van Lottum. “The city of Amsterdam and Topsport Amsterdam have embraced Tennis Academy Amsterdam, and the Sports Science Unit at the Free University of Amsterdam provides the necessary support facilities. We also gained support by international brands like adidas and Prince.”
Sven Groeneveld has more than 20 years experience as a coach for both ATP as WTA players. As a coach Groeneveld achieved 3 Grand Slam titles with 3 different players; Monica Seles, Australian Open (1992), Mary Pierce, Australian Open (1995) and Ana Ivanovic, Roland Garros (2008).
As a coach Groeneveld also achieved 5 Grand Slam finals with 5 different players; Aranxta Sanches Vicario, Australian Open (1994), Mary Pierce, Roland Garros (1994), Michael Stich, Roland Garros (1995), Ana Ivanovic, Roland Garros (2007) and Caroline Wozniacki, US Open (2009). Groeneveld led Ana Ivanovic in 2008 and Caroline Wozniacki in 2010 to a year end number 1 position.
Beside his 15 year experience as a private coach on the tour, Groeneveld worked in the past for the Swiss union. In this role he was responsible for the training of Roger Federer.

Currently Sven Groeneveld is the concultant/coach of the Adidas Player Development Program and private coach of Ester Vergeer. In the Adidas Player Development Program Groeneveld works with successful players like Caroline Wozniacki, Andy Murray, Fernando Verdasco, Ana Ivanovic and others. Further Groeneveld scouts young talents and helps them to find a balance in their own training and education. Groeneveld will continue his current work at the professional tour. Besides that he will lay the foundation of Tennis Academy Amsterdam through transfer his vision, work methods and new international developments on the players and coaches of TAA.
