Sunny skies got the 2011 US Open back on track yesterday, with the finals set in a number of events. In the men’s doubles final to be held today, the No. 9 seeds Jurgen Melzer and Philipp Petzschner will face the sixth-seeded team of Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski. In the men’s wheelchair singles final, three-time defending champion Shingo Kunieda will face 2009 wheelchair doubles champion Stephane Houdet, and in today’s doubles final, Houdet will team with fellow Frenchman Nicolas Peifer to take on the top-seeded Dutch pair of Maikel Scheffers and Ronald Vink.
In women’s wheelchair singles, Esther Vergeer, who has not lost a singles match since January 2003, will aim for a sixth US Open Wheelchair Competition crown against Aniek Van Koot, and in doubles, Vergeer will team with Sharon Walraven to take on Van Koot and Jiske Griffioen today.
The Quad doubles final, also today, will feature Americans Nick Taylor and David Wagner looking for a fourth straight title against Peter Norfolk and Noam Gershony. In singles, Wagner will face Norfolk today in the last round of the round robin needing a victory to have a chance to repeat his 2010 Quad singles
