Roof at the US Open

Fans sit in the rain after play was stopped as Andy Murray of Great Britain plays Donald Young of the US during their fourth round match on the tenth day of the 2011 US Open Tennis Championship at the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, New York, USA 07 September 2011. Here’s what we heard from Disco Dottie: Flushing is built on an old ” dump site” trash of some sort… Back in 1964, when the World’s Fair was built, it reclaimed the property (if you ever can) from mother nature…..

So, is it doubtful that engineers could look at a juiced up Shea stadium, a beefed-up US open (massive stadiums everywhere), and now add some roofs? Doubtful. Rosetti isn’t much of a stadium designer in geezers mind. One of the worst stadiums is the Indian Wells as it is very poorly designed. A real headache. The desert one has a main entrance on the west and the north west – that’s it. All Tennis stadiums should be built like court one at Wimbledon: with entries at every section, easy in and out for seat holders, spectators. Also, as always, there are too few bathrooms…

We are currently on a rain delay at Flushing, as the forecast read. The players are furious (RAFA and both Andys). The three stormed the ref’s office after the rushed start. RAFA was rushed. His rematch ritual includes a shower, then taping – totaling over an hour. The courts were slippery. The conditions were really “if-fy.” The players want to go play more than anyone, so why rush them or endanger them on a dangerous court that has turned into an ice-skating rink with the slightest drizzle.

The balls were wet. The backs of the courts were wet. They got rushed. They were on court less than 15 minutes. No crowds there; it was a sad day. Great tennis, but so sad… The lines get really slippery. Why is Hanna storm on this telecast? Why is Chris Fowler? Why not let tennis people do tennis reporting and not “TV” people?

Tennis needs a commissioner because tennis players have no voice. RAFA said “We don’t feel protected”…. Bravo Andy Murray. Bravo Andy Roddick. Bravo RAFA. Let your wishes be known. Your safety comes first.
