British team Colin Fleming and Ross Hutchins were given a walkover by Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez of Spain for an unknown reason. The Brits will face the Indo/Pak Express in the quarterfinals.
There could potentially be three Indian players in the quarterfinals in the bottom half of the draw. Rohan Bopanna of India one half of the Indo/Pak duo and Paes and Bhupathi. The No. 4 seeds all-Indian team will have to beat Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski to move into the semi-finals.
The Bryan Twins were out of the competition earlier than expected. The World No. 1 team suffered a surprise loss to Ivo Karlovic of Croatia and Frank Moser of Germany in the first round. It was the first time since 2001 the Bryans lost in the first round of a Grand Slam.
The top three seeded doubles teams are all out of the US Open. The highest seeded team left in the competition are Paes and Bhupathi the number four seeds.
