American Donald Young has taken out another seeded player today at US Open. Young overcame the No. 24 seed Argentinian Juan Ignacio Chela 7-5 6-4 6-3.

The in-form American hopeful caused an upset when he defeated the No. 14 seed Stanislas Wawrinka in the second round. Wawrinka is ranked 59 places higher than Young at No. 14 on the ATP Tour singles ranking. This is the first time in Young’s career he has reached fourth round of a Grand Slam. Before today his best result at the US Open was a third round back in 2007.

Donald Young hit 46 winners today compared to Chela’s 19. Donald, who has matured as a player in the last couple of months used nifty tactics in today’s match. The 22-year-old’s best result came a couple of weeks ago in Washington, a lead up tournament to the US Open when he reached the semi-final and lost to the very experienced Radek Stepanek. On his way to the semi-final Young took out Jurgen Melzer, Michael Russell and Marco Bagdhdatis.

Apart from Young there are three more Americans left in the draw in the second week of the US Open – Andy Roddick, Mardy Fish and John Isner. “It’s great.  Think that’s the way it should ne here, especially at the US Open. The crowd support really pulls you through the matches,” Young said.

The Chicago born player has gained a lot of confidence in the last week at Flushing Meadows, “When I step on the court, I actually feel like I can win, not just put up a good front, have a good match. But now I feel like I can actually win. That’s a great feeling to go on the court and especially in three out of five set matches I can actually go the distance.”

The winner of Brit Andy Murray and Spain’s Feliciano Lopez will face Donald Young in the fourth round.
