Bopanna and Qureshi will face the winner of the No. 13 seeds Marcel Granollers and Mark Lopez of Spain and the British team of Colin Felming and Ross Hutchins. The Brits caused an upset when they beat the second seeds Daniel Nestor and Max Miryni in the second round last week.
Wimbledon finalists Horian Tecau of Romania and Robert Lindstedt of Sweden also moved into the US Open doubles quarterfinals today. The No. seven seeds were given a tough workout by the Italian team of Daniele Bracciali and Potito Starace. The Swedish/Romanian team won in two tiebreak sets.
Lindstedt and Tecau will play another Italian doubles duo Simone Bolelli and Fabio Fognini, who downed the No. 15 seeds Mark Knowles of The Bahamas and 10sballs.com’s favourite played Xavier Malisse 7-5 6-4.
The World No. 1 ranked doubles team of Bob and Mike Bryan lest a message for their fans on Facebook and Twitter. “Well, that’s all folks! The 2011 US Open Campaign didn’t quite go as planned. Thruthfully, it was kinda brutal, nonetheless, thanks NYC for the energy, the fans for the support, and the USTA for another great show. Wow to pull more hardware out of this place before we hang up the sneaks.”
The twins suffered a surprise loss in the first round to Ivo Karlovic of Croatia and Frank Moser of Germany. The Bryans have only lost in the first round once before and that was at the Australian Open back in 2001.
