Colin Fleming and Ross Hutchins of Great Britain had a straight set surprise win over the number two seeds Max Mirnyi of Belarus and Daniel Nestor of Canada 6-3 7-5 today.

The battle on Court No. 11 lasted one hour and 41 minutes. The Brits hit five aces compared to their opponents three. The Canadian/Belarus team is currently ranked No. 3 on the ATP Doubles Team Ranking and the Brits are No. 27. Fleming and Hutchins will move into the third round and face the Spanish team and No. 13 seed Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez. The Spanish duo defeated Franco Ferreiro of Brazil and Rui Machado of Portugal in three sets.

The Indo/Pak Express team are having a good start to the US Open. Rohan Bopanna and Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi needed two tiebreak sets to overcome James Cerretani of the United States and Philipp Marx of Germany advance to the next round. The Asian team will face the winner of Paul Hanley of Australia and Dick Norman of Belgium and Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah both from Colombia.

Another successful British team this week are Jamie Delgado and Jonathan Marray, who were victorious today against Brazilians Marcelo Melo and Bruno Soares. The Brits won 7-6 (2) in the third set. They will now bump into the No. 6 seeds Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski of Poland. The Poles won in two sets against Julian Knowle of Austria and Horacio Zeballos of Argentina 6-4 6-1.

Horia Tecau of Romania and Robert Lindstedt of Sweden are seeded number seven. They had a tricky win over Spain’s Pablo Andujar and Daniel Gimeno-Traver in three sets. The Romanian/Swedish team now meet Daniele Bracciali and Potito Starace of Italy, after they defeated Denis Istomin and Mikhail Kukushkin in the second round.

10sballs.com’s Xavier Malisse and Mark Knowles of the Bahamas won 6-3 6-3 earlier today. Their third round opponents will be Simone Bolelli and Fabio Fognini of Italy. The Italians blew away Ivo Karlovic of Croatia and Frank Moser of Germany 7-6 (3) 6-3. Karlovic and Moser couldn’t back up their first round surprise win over the Bryan Brothers.
