Mardy Fish enters the 2011 US Open as the top-ranked American in either draw and is riding one of the best streaks of his career, reaching the semifinals or better at four events this summer to claim the 2011 Olympus US Open Series title.
The new and improved Fish will face perhaps his sternest test today, however—the second round of the US Open. In his career, Fish is just 2-5 in second-round matches in Flushing Meadows, with losses in this round in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006 and 2007. Today he faces Tunisian qualifier Malek Jaziri looking to continue a more recent trend—Fish won his second-round matches at his last two US Opens en route to the quarterfinals in 2008 and the fourth round last year.
