Wozniak Pulls Up Stakes in New York / Wozniak Plie Bagage À New York
Montréal, August 29, 2011 – Despite winning three qualifying matches, Aleksandra Wozniak (Blainville, QC)
was shown the door in the first round of the main draw of the US Open.
Wozniak’s best performance in New York dates back to 2009, when she reached the third round and defeated
former no.1 Amélie Mauresmo of France. This time, the Canadian was up against Christina McHale of the US
on brand new Court 17 – the fourth-largest show court on the grounds of the USTA Billie Jean King National
Tennis Centre. With long backcourt rallies, the match was hotly disputed from the first to the last point, but
McHale came out on top after 148 minutes of play and three sets of 6-3, 6-7 (5), racking up 35 winners versus
28 for Wozniak. The 19-year-old McHale, who’s risen from 115th to 66th in the world in just a few months, is
certainly an American hopeful. In her next match, she’ll face 8th seed Marion Bartoli.

QC) s’est inclinée au premier tour du tableau principal des Internationaux des États-Unis.
La meilleure performance de Wozniak à New York remontait en 2009 alors qu’elle avait atteint le troisième tour
en battant notamment la Française et ex-numéro un mondiale Amélie Mauresmo. Cette fois-ci, la Blainvilloise
croisait le fer avec l’Américaine Christina McHale. Le match était disputé sur le tout nouveau terrain du Centre
national de tennis Billie Jean King, le terrain 17, quatrième plus important terrain au chapitre de l’assistance. La
rencontre a été une chaude lutte du début à la fin, mais c’est finalement l’Américaine qui a eu le dessus après
148 minutes de jeu en trois manches de 6-3, 6-7 (5) et 6-4. Les deux joueuses ont eu plusieurs longs échanges
en fond de terrain, McHale dominant toutefois au chapitre des coups gagnants, 35 à 28. La jeune de 19 ans
représente un bel espoir pour les États-Unis, elle qui est passée du 115e au 66e rang en l’espace de quelques
mois. Elle affrontera maintenant la Française et 8e tête de série, Marion Bartoli.
