New York is my city. The US Open is my slam. Has been since. The Westside Tennis club days in Forest Hills. Oh those were the days for everyone. Small intimate and elegant on the grass…. I’m digressing ..
If hurricane Irene stays on course she is going to hammer Long Island. Queens. Flushing. The two main airports. Shea stadium and the National Tennis center. Mayor Bloomberg and Gov Cuomo are monitoring this closely. Talking evacuations. Trains. And subways halted… They call it, “Total Transit Shutdown.”
The officials expect at a minimum heavy rains and flooding and wind damage. They figure the storm to hit early Sunday morning .
I’m reading the NY Post and looking at a dumb ad for the US Open. Slogan “Love is Magic”. Quarter page ad and “it must be love ” photos of Maria Sharapova and Novak Djokovic … sad words.
Tickets still available. I remember the sold out years…Sold out!
We just hope that Hurricane Irene doesn’t have too much wrath to throw on the BJK center.
