The World No. 5 ranked doubles team of Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi have captured the doubles title at the Western and Southern Open in Cincinnati today when they defeated the World No. 3 duo of Michael Llodra and Nenad Zimonjic in two tiebreak sets.
Llodra and Zimonjic were looking to win their third consecutive title this week in Cincinnati. The duo won the titles in Washington defeating Lindstedt/Tecau and in Montréal last week beating the Bryan Brothers.
Today’s winners Paes and Bhupathi won their third title for the year. They won in Chennai in January and the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 in Miami. They also reached the final of the first Grand Slam of the year the Australian Open.
The Indian duo got a walk over in the quarterfinal against Tomas Berdych and Radek Stepanek due to Berdych shoulder injury. In the semi-final they beat the World No. 1 team Bob and Mike Bryan in a tough match.
Neither of today’s two finals teams will compete in next weeks Winston Salem Open. They will now get ready and fired up for the US Open starting next Monday.
The Champions will share $153 600 and receive 1000 ATP ranking points. Llodra and Zimonjic will receive $72 200.
