Two Seeded Teams Out Cincy Doubles Event

Second seeds Max Mirnyi and Daniel Nestor have been dismissed by American wildcards Alex Bogomolov Jr and Steve Johnson at the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati.

The Americans won 7-5 6-7 (6) 10-7 to reach the last eight of the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Tournament in Cincinnati. Nestor and Mirnyi have won several Grand Slam titles between them and they are both ranked in the top four on the individual doubles ranking and on the doubles team ranking they are No. 2.

Bogomolov Jr and Johnson will face Juan Sebastian Cabal of Colombia and Florian Mayer of Germany, who downed the number eight seeds Jurgen Melzer and Philipp Petzschner 7-5 7-6 (5).

France’s Michael Llodra and Serbian Nenad Zimonjic, the number four seeds are through to the quarterfinals after winning against Eric Butorac and Juan Julien Rojer 5-7 6-4 10-5. Llodra and Zimonjic have won two titles recently, the first one a couple of weeks ago in Washington and last week in Montreal.

Llodra/Zimonjic will have to battle with the number five seeds Rohan Bopanna and Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi for a spot in the semi-finals. The Indo/Pak team defeated Juan Ignacio Chela and Juan Monaco of Argentina 6-3 5-7 10-4.

The number six seeds Robert Lindstedt of Sweden and Horia Tecau of Romania were the second seeded team today to be ousted of the draw. They lost to in-form singles players Radek Stepanek and Tomas Berdych 6-2 6-7 (3) 10-6.

Berdych and Stepanek next meet Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes, who had a two set win over Marc Lopez and Rafael Nadal 6-4 6-2. Nadal would have been a little tired after his singles battle with Verdasco earlier in the day.

The number one seeds super duo Bob and Mike Bryan will face Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski, who prevailed Bruno Soares and Scott Lipsky to reach the last eight.
