WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AUGUST 16, 2011) – The Winston-Salem Open at Wake Forest University has awarded a doubles wildcard to Cory Parr, a former member of the Wake Forest tennis team, and Treat Huey.

Parr was a 2008 and 2009 Doubles All-American and 2009 Singles All-American. With 108 victories, he holds the record for most wins of all doubles player in the history of Wake Forest tennis. Parr made it to the quarterfinals of the 2008 and 2009 NCAA Doubles Championships and was All-ACC in 2007, 2008 and 2009. He also won the 2008 ITA National Indoor Doubles Championship with Steven Forman, the first-ever individual national championship for the Wake Forest men’s tennis program.

“I’m very excited that Cory gets to come back to Wake Forest to compete in the Winston-Salem Open alongside Treat Huey. We have a strong history of men’s tennis here at Wake, and Cory is one of the best players ever to come out of our program,” Wake Forest head men’s tennis coach Jeff Zinn said. “When Cory was in school here, he was one of the best collegiate doubles players in the country, so I can’t wait to see what he can do against some of the best players in the world.”

Huey is a graduate of the University of Virginia , where he was All-ACC in 2006 and 2007. During the fall of his senior year, he became Virginia ’s all-time career doubles winner with 106 victories. Huey concluded the fall of his senior year ranked No. 1 in doubles and No. 1 in singles in the Mideast Region. He recently teamed with Winston-Salem Open singles player and former teammate Somdev Devvarman at the Los Angeles Farmer’s Class (an ATP event as part of the US Open Series) and reached the finals before losing to Mark Knowles and Xavier Malisse. Huey is currently ranked No. 71 worldwide among doubles players.

The Winston-Salem Open will announce additional doubles pairings within a few days.
