After a quick post match discussion with my collection of various RF emblazoned wear, we all agreed this was a very strong and intelligent showing for Federer. De Potro is a very dangerous player and can’t be allowed to see the same shot or pattern too many times. If he does, the risk of him piecing together his confidence toward the “red zone” will trigger a crushing Godzilla like forehand that is trouble for anyone in the game.
But that wasn’t the case tonight. Federer sliced and diced, served with tremendous accuracy and kept Del Potro off balance and out of rhythm for most of the match. He displayed some superb vintage shot making and subtle nuances that reinforced again why he is the best possible example of how the game is dreamt of being played.
After the match Roger only spoke about how happy he was to see the other players healthy and playing well (Blake, Del Potro). Although this is always about me, for this one time only I’m going to make it about him…good show Roger, well done.
